Yes. You and I don’t always agree, but we can talk about things and allow for the differences in opinions.

It seems to be the right (?!?) to individuality that has been lost

Today, if you think differently, you are rejected...on both sides of the fence...

Again, I find myself blaming the media and institutions for touting this view. We get 'packaged' based on what we say or how we react or don't react to their garble. They are also 'packaged' by indoctrination but they just can't see it. This, in my thoughts, has never been about celebrating diversity but more about a direct attack to make us hate and label each other. We are definitely losing the ability to talk with each other.

This summer I went to a wedding and the DJ came around to say that if there was a song we wanted her to play just to let her know. The people we were placed with at the table were all haters of Trump. I thought, "Oh Great, this is likely to be a black hole". So I speak up and say to the DJ, "YMCA" always seems to be a crowd favourite and a young woman at the table says, "NO way, Trump plays that at his rallys". I shrugged my shoulders as if to say, "AND..." and she glared at me for the remainder of the evening. Like honestly............

So funny....it is funny too how Trump haters don't see the obvious irony, as well as good will, Trump displays when choosing, in his words, "the gay national anthem" as a Trump rally theme song...

Yes, exactly. That is what we said. But it was more about that Trump used that song and God forbid that we have that played. Sigh..........

Why are you hanging out with liberals?

Todd Hayen, PhD, RP's avatar

My wife's kids, her family, her friends, mostly. I am rather isolated up here...had tons of friends in LA, most of them were liberals too, and have since told me to take a hike...

Todd, I think the day may come for you to opt out of those gatherings unless things change with their views about you. You are not being kind to yourself.

True...but like I said in the article, I may not be reading the body language correctly...and if I am correct, it is usually presented as a "well, he IS an old man, and from a time when they did not care for gays"...at its worse...

I think you are being too kind.

Agreed! Todd, I don’t think you’re reading body language incorrectly. I personally believe you receive more information via your senses with spoken words being the least reliable. Trust your senses, save your sanity and health!

If I "saved my sanity and health" I would be living alone in a trailer out in the desert with a few scraggly dogs, eating beans out of a can on the back stoop...

Helpful list of “ approved “ topics

Fall colours , cute babies , puppies , favourite desserts, road construction, inflation ( warning don’t blame exorbitant government spending during the plandemic for rising prices ) Trump as an existential threat ( still trying to figure out what that means ) and of course the weather !

Your welcome lol

If you don’t understand that Trump and those he puts in power are a threat, then you are not yet awake to Truth/Humanity.

Are you being cynical? One on hand, many of us feel we have to root for something, on the other hand, I think most of us know the probability of anyone holding any sort of authoritative power as being decent and good for us is rather slim.

I’m beyond cynical. But, I love God/Creator more than myself. I do my best, especially after the last decade😉🕊️.

You've left their tribe - not intentionally, but it's the way they see it. Tread carefully, they may become violent.

I believe any of us who speak out at all are at risk for some sort of violence…I don’t think we have to be famous for that.

And there’s plenty of evidence of that here in the UK.

Sounds as if they thought the word gay was pejorative and we know that it is not.

Todd Hayen, PhD, RP's avatar

Yes, all words like that are considered pejorative…gay, black, Chinese, Muslim, woman, trans, etc.

As an older gay man I applaud your openness, willingness and reflective nature. The letter-tray-cult has infected all sides of the human manifestation. Maybe once they run out of letters they will get silent again.

Oh yea ! So well put !

In order to protect their world order ( attachment to the comfy mainstream narrative ) sheep have developed an army of tools ranging from passive aggressive body language to an endless list of labels.

Agree meaningful and friendly discussion no longer doable. Although sad I have accepted this and have chosen peace . It’s a really lucky day if I bump into another shrew.

My hope is that they evolve , I would even settle for a little independent thought …..sadly there is very little if any .

It makes people feel better, and safer, if they can drop people into certain buckets...nowadays there are only two buckets. People who are "ok" and people who are not. Anything you say and do can put you in the "people who are not OK" bucket...

Sounds kind of like battered wife syndrome. Sorry, Todd, but the voice is passive and intones they are in the right and your beliefs, expression needs modulation, lest you anger the wife-beater.

Buck up, Todd! Can't live like that. I know among family and friends harmony is sought. But as long as they are allowed to carry themselves with self-righteous moral indignation while you hope/beg for accommodation of small infractions against their values you will forever live a lie with them.

Take me or leave me. I'm not everybody's cup of tea. There will be a comeuppance for them someday. When the worldview they think they know comes crashing around them. As is wont to happen to those hoisted with their own petard.

Wanna be a family and friend favorite? Bust their bubble? Suggest you all watch Andrew Dice Clay's 'No Apologies' together. Get one of them to giggle and the spell they're under is broken! The Dice Man cometh!

Be loud and proud! No Apologies!! Hint: a tiny little part of them they will struggle to repress will know it's actually funny, not offensive, and wish they could outwardly laugh with you. Maybe they approach you quietly and independently confess they wish they could laugh in public?

Sad thing is they've made most of the old comedians pariahs unless they kiss the Ring of Repentance...and apologize. I think Dice even was brought to heel after No Apologies. They have bills to pay...or something like that.

They nailed Eddie Murphy with the whole contrived "picked up a trans prostitute" public arrest to shut down his comedic influence. Never the same, his work has sucked ever since. Howard Stern is now a spokesperson for Emily's List and women's rights, the Rainbow Coalition and headlines GLBTQABCDEFG... fundraisers, hectoring 'misogynists,' 'homophobes' and 'transgenocide' proponents. Ok, I exaggerated that last one...just a little.

This happened to me too within my own family. I think this is very common behavior for Gen Z particularly. I believe it is a result of financed social engineering and has no basis in reality. They are being played. I hope there will be an awakening for them before they completely isolate themselves.
