Some Substack articles (including some of yours) have a button that says "Claim my free post." When I click to read the post, I get a link to download an App... which I assume is designed for Smart phones(?). But, there doesn't seem to be a way to read the article on my laptop. Does claiming the free post require use of a Smart phone and an App?
Yes language can be used to promote insidious things. For example the term "post tramatic stress syndrome" . A term popularized by the military to turn the focus away from the barbarous acts that our nation is commiting and place the Blame on the individual soldier, and declare the problem is in his brain, probably brain chemistry. In addition the drug companies are making a killing pretending the solution is drugs. very sad very disturbing.
I agree. There are mental disorders that come under "normal circumstances" which then can often be attributable to issues with the individual, and then there are others, often PTSD, that come under abnormal circumstances such as war or other extreme trauma.
War is definitely one that should be "blamed"...and blamed mercilessly. There is no excuse for it in this "day and age"...there never has been, but at least in the past there seemed to be more "reason"...now there is none.
Todd your profession must take care not to add to language ie. PTSD. and other psychiatric " conditions " are prime examples of manipulative language. Now people are self describing their own "mental disorders" to the delight of the drug companies.
Here is a quote from a comment on Mad In America article:
"That's the essence of depersonalization in therapy and academia: identifying more with a label/expertise than with lived experience and human corporeality. And that shift, as subtle as it may seem, has deep consequences: for society, for the development of the mind, for individual agency, and for consciousness itself."
I am a depth/Jungian/archetypal psychotherapist. We are not really caught up in that "diagnosing/labelling" nonsense the medical industry pushed us into. This modality of psychology is non-pathologizing.
In Canada, I am not allowed to diagnose anyway (although in the US I was trained to). I am not a fan of psychological diagnoses, although I do think they can be useful in treating someone who is suffering. I think labelling does more harm than good, and as you say, its primary purpose is to know what to prescribe (medication) so it is definitely a big push by the pharmacology industry.
Yes, there is often a silver lining to technology. The internet has made this movement possible. I am only waiting for them to shut it all down. Already in Canada you cannot post news links in Facebook...which is insane.
Great stuff! Moving into the big leagues. :^)
On a different topic, can I ask a question:

Thanks!
Todd, that is great that James quoted you and your article. You are getting noticed and that's a good thing!
Yay, Todd!! Hoping the term shrew gets to be mainstreamed and attributed to you! I’ll also be proud to be called a terMAGAnt!
That is definitely my dream. I hope one day Donald himself thanks us all and uses the term "shrew" in describing us! Ha ha.

That's so great! I subscribe to James and you too! And to Off Guardian, where I often see your work. Thank God for the Internet!

To paraphrase Buckminister Fuller; we can use the technologies being developed to control us to free ourselves.
